In addition to riding and racing, a number of PV members are also active in the local community, promoting safer cycling infrastructure, better trails, and other cycling-related causes.

Meet the Advocacy Director: Andrew Hsu

Many of you know Andrew’s long-running commitment to club as the former PV President, super cyclist, and overall awesome person.  What many of you might not know is that Andrew stepped down as PV President in 2018 to pursue his passion of bicycle advocacy, joining the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition Board.  The position of Director of Advocacy is a natural fit for Andrew to expand his passion and help PV’s voice within the community.

Ryan’s Ride

PenVelo has been an annual supporter of Ryan’s Ride, a unique athletic event for children ages 12 and under that raised money for cancer programs in our community by collecting pledges for the Livestrong Foundation. Hundreds of children rode like champions on the same course as professional and elite amateur cyclists, pedaling to the finish line to thunderous applause.  Each child is a champion – just for participating, they all receive a goodie bag, medal, and ice cream!

660 champions crossed the finish line on June 9, 2019, the final Ryan’s Ride.

Bicycle Sunday

A portion of the proceeds from our Beat the Clock time trial events go toward funding the Bicycle Sunday program run by the San Mateo County Parks Department. This program closes the north end of Cañada Road every Sunday, allowing people of all ages to cycle, walk, run, skateboard, skate-ski or participate in almost any non–motorized activity (ball and Frisbee sports excepted).
